Rambus has support of ITC agency staff in Nvidia case
Rambus has the support of the staff at the U.S. International Trade Commission in its patent case against Nvidia, according to a document made public Thursday.
The staff, which acts as a third party working in the public's interest, said two of the five patents in the case were infringed by Nvidia and its customers, while the other three should be deemed invalid. The staff is recommending an order to ban U.S. imports of the computer-graphics chips based on the two patents.
A trial on the dispute began Tuesday in Washington. ITC Judge Theodore Essex doesn't have to follow the recommendation and ITC judges often make decisions contrary to staff positions. Essex is scheduled to release his findings Jan. 22, and they are subject to review by the six-member commission.
